So here we are again...training part three. This time I don't have an American companion!!!! His name is Elder Manu'a he is Samoan but is from Australia. He is built like a tank (like all those islanders are), so I have to be sure not to mess with him too much haha. But he is such a good guy. He has a lot of energy and is excited for the work. In the four days we have been together we have seen a lot of success so we are excited for what this next transfer has in store for us... Oh and another thing is that he loves to cook... and I think it is a divine coincidence that I love to eat so we are going to get along just fine. :)
Finding with him has been a blast!. Interestingly enough, he knows a weird Spanish rap. I don't know where he got it from or what it's about except that it says the word Biblioteca. But it sounds sweet. So what we have been doing this week is sharing a Mormon/Australian/Samoan rap (but in Spanish) to people on the street or at their doors. It has been working quite well. It just goes to show that you can't be robotic in missionary work, there is no room for it. Get out of the comfort zone and have some fun!
Another experience we had that was pretty cool was while we were knocking. My companion went up to knock on a door while I was next door talking to some lady(don't worry, we were within site and sound)and he started to sing Silent Night to this man. When he was finished he asked the man if we could share a Christmas message but he declined. So I walked up and we start talking to this man about his life for a good fifteen minutes and we asked him again if we could come back at a specific time and he agreed. Another example of how you need to connect with people. "People don't care how much you know, until they know how much you care."
We were able to teach some good lessons this week. We got in with a really cool university student named J. and taught him the first lesson and scheduled him for baptism. He expressed to us how excited he was to find out for himself if what we shared is true. I am amazed at how important the Book of Mormon is in gaining a testimony. Me and my companion can testify and teach all we want, but in the end its up to the person we are talking to whether or not they want the truth bad enough to keep commitments. So lets hope that J. is serious about this! Unfortunately, about half of our investigators are going out of town for Christmas so we are going to have to be pretty patient over the next couple weeks.
Well this next week is going to be great. We have the mission Christmas party and what not so everyone is getting excited. Have a good Christmas everyone!
